LIMA, OH (WLIO) - Lima City Schools' families gathered for community fellowship Tuesday evening at Lima Senior High School for the District-Wide Open House.
The open house is the main highlight of the district's "Celebrate Public Schools: Experience the Spartan Pride" week where each Lima City School building and their programs are displayed. The open house is filled with various activities including a free meal prepared by the Spartan Inn culinary students, student performances, spartan merchandise, and prizes. The purpose of this celebration is to show the community how public education serves every student and family, a message Lima City Schools Superintendent, Jill Ackerman, wants families to know.
"Public education is a service to all kids, so regardless of your socioeconomic status, your ethnicity, whether you have a disability, we serve all students. No one is ever turned away. We don't screen the kids that come to our schools. We serve everyone, and there is something for everyone in our school district. We have 12 different career-tech programs. We have all kinds of choirs and bands. We have orchestra. We have art at all different levels," says Jill Ackerman, Superintendent, Lima City Schools.
Lima City Schools will also begin kindergarten registration in mid-April, and Superintendent Ackerman asks parents to be on the lookout for information coming out soon.
