They are inviting local agencies, organizations, and community members to an educational symposium titled "Liberty Unchained: Breaking Bonds, Restoring Hope." It's an effort to get everyone on the same page for what to look for, the signs of, and how to handle instances of human trafficking.
"All of these professionals that might encounter these victims, how can we bring all of them in to get the same resources that our medical professionals are getting? How are we bringing in Crime Victim Services to talk about the resources that they have and children services? Forensic nursing is actually bringing a survivor of trafficking to speak on her story and the trauma and how she was able to deal with those. So it's really just all-encompassing," said Kayla Vorhees, academic research coordinator.
The symposium is scheduled for Wednesday, October 16, 2024, from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Graduate Medical Education Center.
