April 1, 2024 Press Release from the University of Northwestern Ohio: April is nationally recognized as Sexual Assault Awareness Month (SAAM). The University of Northwestern Ohio’s Title IX Office has created a month full of educational and interactive ways to address sexual assault in its various forms. During the month, national statistics, local resources, and ways to get involved on campus will be distributed to faculty, staff, and students.
Events scheduled on campus include a display of clothing that sexual assault survivors were wearing when assaulted. This display will be available for viewing the entire month. Students will also be able to stop by a Cupcakes and Consent information table to grab a sweet treat and learn more about consent from Crime Victim Services representatives.
The highlight of the month will be the Hands of Support event on April 23rd from 10:00am – 12:00pm at Racers Rock in the center of campus. The Hands of Support Event is an opportunity for the UNOH campus to come together and show their support for survivors of sexual assault. Flags will be placed around the Racers Rock that display words written by students, faculty, and employees earlier in the month. The handprints on the Rock are an added visual to show the community that the UNOH family stands against sexual assault in all forms.
The local community is invited to drive through campus and see the Hands of Support display on April 23rd through the end of the month.
