LIMA, OHIO (WLIO) - Two people were shot during a large fight Saturday night on the south side of Lima.

According to Lima Detectives, around 11 p.m., two groups of people came together to fight in the 700 block of West Vine Street. During the fight, 42-year-old David Johnson of Lima fired 13 shots into the crowd. Bullets hit 30-year-old Angel Nicely and 27-year-old Mark Collins, both from Lima, who were in the area because of the dispute. They were both taken to the hospital, where they were treated for their injuries and released. Besides the individuals, there were vehicles parked along the street that were hit. Johnson was taken into custody and charged with suspicion of felonious assault, and his wife believes others should be arrested.
“They came to my house with weapons, throwing things at the house, came into my yard, threating us. So, my husband popped shots at them. I am assuming, from what I have read, two people were shot. He did it to protect us because they showed up at our house and they don’t even live in this part of town,” says Shirley Johnson.

David Johnson was booked in the Allen County Jail. The incident is currently under investigation.
Media Release from the Lima Police Department, June 9th
On 6/08/2024, at about 11:00 p.m., officers from the Lima Police Department were dispatched to the 700 Block of W. Vine Street, in reference to several shots fired.
They arrived to find that a large fight broke out in the street, and several shots were fired at a crowd of people and a vehicle in the street. During the investigation, investigators learned this spurred from an ongoing dispute between two groups, one of which lived in that block.
As a result of the two sides purposely meeting in that area for the purpose of fighting, one individual, 42-year-old David A. Johnson of Lima, fired 13 shots at the crowd while standing in the street. Several of those shots hit a car parked in the lane of travel, and two of the shots struck two pedestrians who were in that area as a result of the feud. 30-year-old Angel Nicely and 27-year-old Mark Collins, both of Lima, were shot and sustained non-life-threatening injuries. Both were treated for gunshot wounds at Lima Memorial Health Systems and later released.
David Johnson was held on suspicion of felonious assault at the Allen County Jail. This investigation is still under investigation.
